He just needs to protect everyone he cares about in the process.Heretic Spellblade contains plenty of violence, undefined relationships, beast girls, and scenes that don’t fade to black.Book Heretic Spellblade 3 Review :
I enjoyed this book and have bought it. But this one suffers from the speed it was written and published at.1: Plot moves at warp speed, feels like hitting billet points instead of an organic story.2: Scenes were cut down to paragraphs of telling. This is easily seen in any intimate scenes. We get he had this sex, or was with this woman instead of a scene. The ones that made it through are boring, barely managing over a paragraph. Given the pages of political systems that are force fed by the chapter.3: The speed of the writing seemed to cut out the slice of life chapter that built the characters. People are introduced without any build up or understanding of who they are. Dozens of knights, champions, and bastions are set into the story with almost no context or fleshing out of there character.4: Nathan is still burning when it comes to magic. He’s exactly as interesting as the first book. In one of the major fights he creates a temporal shift moving him a dozen feet… who cares in a world of teleportation of hundreds of miles. He gets better at mind magic, but does nothing impressive with it. The champions seemed impressed but I’m bored. Big deal, he can gem a champion sooner, it’s not interesting. It’s not cool. It helps nothing in a fight. As champions become immortal, shoot flame, teleport, crush bodies, etc, he can create a ward that slows down a sword. Nathan is walking the razor of being so boring I give up on these books. He needs to grow. He needs to have an interesting power arc. It can’t be all champions saying he’s impressive, you have to show something impressive. This is now the third book in the series, and i would say it marks the point where Nathan stops reacting to his various enemies' plans, and shifts to being proactive about breaking them at their source. I wont say much about the relationship writing, other than that it's got a believable level of occasional insecurity, which is to be expected with the kind of info the characters learn about their world, who exactly nathan is, and *what* that really means to them. It's done well, and no one overreacts to the point where it seems like they're committing sit-com stupidity. This third installment adds a number of wrinkles to the rules, and general cosmic detail of the setting, and sets the stage for greater things to come. There *is* a plot detail that's predictable if you take yourself out of the experience and ask questions about certain reveals that just seem like threads that'll be pulled later, but that's not how books like this one are generally meant to be consumed. If you're riding the story as it goes, and dont criticize the tropes of it just for existing (and considering tropes a bad thing is a fast path to ruining *all* media for yourself), well it hits you as intended, like you both should have guessed, and like it came out of nowhere, at *the same time the main character is getting slammed with that feeling.* I don't think robertson or any author in fantasy could have written the twist better, and it wonderfully adds a new piece to the board of the mortal portion of the setting which is going to be *quite* interesting in the next book -crosses fingers- all in all, this installment upped the ante after the second resolved the initial crisis, and revealed that things arent nearly so simple as we hope when worlds are being ended. There are forces at work here that Nathan is just learning of, and maybe the only way to tip the balance to Light on this world is with some serious shades of Gray. But that's been the stock in trade of virtuous soldiers since the dawn of time, in *any* reality; and Nathan will do everything he can to win this war, and *boy* the odds are against him.
